Jellystone Williamsburg Campground Review
If you are planning a trip to Williamsburg, VA in an RV, Jellystone Williamsburg is a great campground option. This Jellystone campground offers some nice amenities along with a variety of RV & tent campsites and camping cabins. We found it to be one of those campgrounds that works well whether you want to spend the day out exploring Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, or Jamestown—or stay put and let the kids wear themselves out right at the campground.
While newly branded as a Jellystone, this campground has been around for a while. Most recently, it was the Williamsburg Campground and before that it was the Williamsburg KOA. While they are working to update and rebrand the place, you may noticed traces of the older parks. For example, the campground map still says Williamsburg Campground. Sites are being renumbered and signage is being updated. Recently acquired by Northgate Resorts who runs other Jellystone campgrounds, it sounds like there are many improvements planned over the next few years.
Our Jellystone Park Williamsburg campground review has all you need to know about this nice campground.
Jellystone Park Williamsburg Campground Overview
Jellystone Park Williamsburg is a great home base from which to explore the Williamsburg VA area. You’ll be close to the major Williamsburg attractions while having a nice place to relax at the end of the day. Its about 6 miles to Colonial Williamsburg, about 12 miles to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and about 14 miles to Jamestown. It is easy to reach from Interstate 64. While there are several good campgrounds near Williamsburg VA, this is one of our favorites.
There is so much to do at the Williamsburg Campground that you might find that you just want to spend time having fun at the campground. There are plenty of outdoor activities including a heated pool, bouncing pillows, a playground, an activity center with a variety of planned activities. If you are traveling with kids, there is enough going on here that you may just want to stay and enjoy the campground.
While it’s a fairly large campground with 370 sites, it doesn’t feel overwhelming. It is really two separate campgrounds. The main camping area has 200 sites, many with nice features like a patio and upgraded seating. Basic sites are also available. A trail now connects to an area with another 170 sites where longer-term visitors may choose to stay
If you’re not an RV camper, don’t worry, Jellystone Williamsburg also offers tent sites, a group tent camping area, cabins, and even two yurts.
Jellystone Williamsburg Campground Activities
You’ll find plenty to do at the Jellystone Park Williamsburg. In the center of the campground is a nice pool. In addition to the L-shaped heated pool, there is also a kiddie pool and a splash pad. Nice seating is provided including loungers and a few tables with umbrellas.

We heard that as part of the upgrades as the park transitions to a Jellystone Park, a larger pool or waterpark may be in the works in the coming years. We are sure that families will love that addition.
Adjacent to the pool is an activity building where fun activities are hosted. On our weekend, the schedule included cartoons & coloring, candy bingo, movie night, tie dye shirts, face painting, ceramics and more.

Toward the front of the campground is a playground, a gravity rail, and two jumping pillows (one for younger jumpers). The Gravity Rail looked really fun – kind of like a zipline that lets kids soar through the air.

At the end of the campground is a large grassy field where you might choose to play a game. A basketball hoop is available. While there is a frisbee disc golf course, it is located in a fairly wooded area that would make playing a challenge.
We always appreciate having a hiking trail at a campground. Jellystone Williamsburg has a nice, short hiking trail that takes you to a view of Skimino Creek.

The camp store at Jellystone Williamsburg was nice with a variety of Yogi Bear merchandise, a range of camping gear and other items.

Jellystone Williamsburg Campground Sites
There are 370 camping sites available at the Williamsburg Campground. Two hundred of them are in the main section with another 170 in the a separate section geared toward extended stay visitors. Most sites have full hookups and some have upgraded features. Overall, the campground has a woodsy feel. Most sites have at least some shade. Most of the sites are gravel and are fairly level.
Sites are divided into categories. When you reserve, you pick a category from standard, deluxe, preferred, and premium and then specify if you want a pull-through or back-in site. If there is a site you especially like, you can lock in your choice for an extra charge.
We opted for a Premium Back-in Site which was very nice. While this section of sites didn’t have as much shade as others, it did have a patio with a nice table. The site was level and we didn’t need to add leveling blocks.

Like a lot of private campgrounds, the sites are fairly closely spaced. However, the way these premium sites are laid out, the firepit was not too close to our camper or our neighbors.
The other thing to be aware of is that the sewer hookups are behind the site. While we parked as far back as possible while still having our steps at the patio, it was a long way to the connection. You may need to have two hoses to connect. As we have two gray tank connections, we used a series of three hoses with a wye connector.

While most sites are gravel, there are a limited number of sites that have a concrete pad.

Some sites also have a swing chair instead of having the upgraded table.

Note that the main campground has a section more toward the front and one more toward the back. Sites in the front section tend to be more closely spaced and you may find that your neighbors fire pit and hookups are very close to your camper.

Standard back-in sites at the very far back of the campground may be best for very small campers like pop-ups.
Tent sites including a group camping site are available. During our stay, we saw a scout troupe enjoying a fun camping weekend. Near the group camping area, you’ll find two yurts if you want to try a camping-like experience but don’t yet have a tent.

There are a variety of cabins available. Some are just a place to sleep while others have upgraded amenities.

Visiting the Jellystone Williamsburg Campground With Dogs
Jellystone Williamsburg is dog friendly. There is a small dog park area. At the end of one of the bath houses, you’ll find a place to clean up your pet after they have fun playing in the great outdoors.

Jellystone Williamsburg Campground Amenities
WiFi is available but we didn’t get to test the wi-fi speed. Cable TV is provided. While it advertises many available channels, the cable was not working during our visit.

A laundry facility is available. It is clean and has top-loading machines. Washers cost $3 and dryers are 25 cents per 8 minutes. A change machine is available if you need quarters.

Even though the Jellystone Williamsburg Campground is two miles from interstate 64 and there are nearby train tracks, road and train noise didn’t seem like a significant issue. You may hear a train in the distance but the campground is generally quiet. If you are in the sites near the bounce pillows, you’ll likely hear the generator that powers them during the day. Of course if you are near the pool, you are likely to hear pool activity during the day.
While staff use electric golf carts, golf card traffic wasn’t an issue during our stay. We didn’t notice any campers using a cart like we’ve seen in some other campgrounds.
Bath houses were clean and in good repair even if they look is someone older.
