Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay Review
We stayed at Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay on a recent trip to Delaware. It is a large camping resort with many amenities. It was a great home base for our Delaware vacation.
As part of our goal to camp and explore in every one of the 50 US states, we wanted to visit Delaware. After doing some research, it appeared that Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay would be a great home base for our explorations. Located close to Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, Delaware, this campground turned out to be the ideal spot to stay during our visit.
We visited during the first week of October. This was definitely off season and the campground was mostly empty during the week. Some of the activities and amenities available during the summer were closed or unavailable.
Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay Overview
Sun Outdoors owns more than 170 resorts and campgrounds across the US. They have acquired many of the independent campgrounds on the Eastern Shore. In addition to Sun Outdoors campgrounds, vacation & retirement communities, they are also the owner of the Jellystone Camping Resorts franchise.
We were originally inspired to consider this campground when it was known as Massey’s Landing and was featured as the best resort-style campground in Delaware in the book “Where Should We Camp Next?” by Stephanie & Jeremy Puglisi.
From the campground, it is a relatively easy drive to visit Rehoboth Beach and the boardwalk there, historic Lewes, or Cape Henlopen State park. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and gas stations all within just a few miles of the campground.
It is a large campground with over 200 full-hookup sites. If you don’t travel in an RV, they also have cabins and safari tent accommodations available. However, if you are interesting in trying camping in a travel trailer, they have several of those available, too.
Sites were a mix of pull-through and back-in. Some had deluxe patios with amenities like a table & chairs and a two-person swing chair. Other sites were paved but didn’t have the patio. A number of sites backed up to a great water view.
The Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay campground was nice and had a ton of amenities and activities. Among these included a family pool and a pool with a swim-up bar. There we also two bars, a private beach, and a playground. The campground was geared toward having enough fun things to do that you could stay and play without having to go elsewhere for your fun.

Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay Activities
Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay is a large campground and has some nice amenities. They have two swimming pools.
The family pool was closed for the season during our visit in October. It looks like it has an easy entry and plenty of sun chairs.
The larger pool is the has a swim-up bar.
Near the pool, you’ll find a nice playground. At the end of the playground is a covered picnic pavilion.
The campground is surrounded by water. To help you take advantage of that, they kayaks and stand-up paddle boards for some time on the water.
The RV resort has a private beach. There are palm trees, picnic tables, and golf car parking along the edge of the beach. In the middle, there is a pavilion that looks like a band stage.
Next to the beach is one of the two bars at the campground. They offer a variety of food and beverages. There is indoor and outdoor seating. If you choose to sit outdoors on the porch, you’ll get a great water view.
The main office building has a large camp store which seemed very well stocked with almost anything you might need. Among other items, they had a good selection of mosquito spray. Wonder if you’d need that on your visit?
Across from the camp store, you’ll find a ice cream shop serving coffee and Hershey’s ice cream. Also in the main camp office building is an arcade with many fun games.
On some evenings, the parking lot in front of the main office building is transformed into a golf cart drive-in movie theater. During our visit in October, they were showing the Halloween-themed movie Hocus Pocus.
You might notice that there are many golf carts lined up in the movie night picture. The campground rents golf carts or you can bring your own. Even though it isn’t a large campground, it is one where you are likely to see a lot of golf cart traffic.
Along the edge of the campground, along the road, there is a dog park. It is a nice fenced area with benches. However, it might be best suited for smaller dogs as it is relatively small compared to the better campground dog parks we’ve seen.
Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay Sites
There are a number of ways to stay at the Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay campground. There are over 200 full-hookup RV campsites including a variety of different pull through and back in campsites. All of the sites were full-hookup. We did not see a dump station. Additionally, there are cabins and safari tents.
The resort has named different sections including the Coveside, Dockside, Fiesta Deck, Landing Club, and Pinewoods. You can find more details on their campground map. All you really need to know is that there are two main sections of the campground. If you go toward the right of the camp office, you’ll find campsites proximate the to beach, main pool, and bars. This side also has some nice sites that back up to the water. If you go to the left, you’ll find the kayak launch, family pool, safari tents, and some sites that back up a lagoon. Both sides have cabins.
There are a few pull-through sites but most are back-in. Sites are staggered so that longer campers will overlap with a portion of the camper next to them. Other than the pull-through sites, the sites aren’t deep enough to accommodate both a truck and travel trailer but a separate parking spot is provided for your tow vehicle.
Overall, site 16 was a nice site. We appreciated the table and rocking chair. Note that in addition to the nice table & chairs, a traditional picnic table was also provided. Another interesting thing was that our deluxe site had a paved patio but a gravel camping pad. However, there were other sites that had a paved pad but didn’t have the deluxe patio.
Utilities for the campsite are toward the rear of the site. For us, that meant needing to have two water hoses and two sewer hoses to reach. Our sewer connection was a bit high making it harder to dump. An upgraded sewer hose support would be nice to have here. Depending on your setup, you may also need an extra long TV cable. Despite being otherwise well stocked, the camp store did not sell long TV cables.
Here are a few examples of other sites available at Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay.
Most of the basic back-in sites with full hookups, campfire ring, and picnic table are similar to site 160.
If you prefer, you can upgrade to a paved back-in site such as site 242.
For very large RVs, you might consider one of the pull-through sites like site 79. These were usually found at the end of a row of sites.
The sites that might be the best are the water view sites like site 251. These sites back up to a nice water view. In addition to a picnic table and standard campfire ring, they also have a very nice brick fire pit.
If you want convenient access to the water, you might consider one of the deluxe sites near the kayak launch, like site 81. One thing to note is that there is an air inflation station for the golf carts near these sites which can be fairly noisy.
If you don’t yet have a camper but want to try one, Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay offers Coleman and Gray Wolf travel trailer rentals. These have the deluxe patio and back up to a water view.
Another way to stay here is in a cabin. The cabins are along the perimeter of the campground. Each has a screen porch and some have nice water views.
If you are looking to feel a bit adventurous, you might try one of the safari tents. Inside the tent, you’ll find two beds, a couch, a dresser, a small refrigerator, and a fan. Outside, you’ll have two chairs, a picnic table, and a fire pit.
Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay Amenities
Cable TV is provided with a basic selection of channels. The cable channels were the usual popular channels. The cable TV hookup is on the power pedestal at the back of the campsite. If the connection on your camper is toward the front, you may need a long coax cable to connect.
While wi-fi was advertised as an amenity, it was not available during the duration of our stay. When we asked about it, the person in the office said that they were having trouble but didn’t offer a timeline or resolution.
A laundry facility with three top loading washing machines and three dryers is available. During our visit, the facility was clean. A wash cycle was $3. Each of the three comfort stations had a laundry room.
Each bathhouse had several showers. They had a tile finish and appeared clean.
A Few Recommendations
We found a nice surprise close to the campground, key lime pie. Craving a slice of pie, we searched for nearby bakeries and discovered Coastal Key Lime Pie. This is a small, family-run bakery that specializes in key lime pie. We had to get one and was it every tasty. Yum!
A local pizza favorite, Grotto Pizza, has a location just a short drive from the campground. We thought it was pretty delicious.
Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay Directions
Accessing the Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay campground is pretty easy. The address is 20628 Long Beach Drive, Millsboro, DE 19966
From Millsboro, head toward Lewes on John J Williams Highway (24/5). Then head East on Long Neck Road. The campground is almost at the end of the road and will be on your left.
There is a large parking area in front of the office building. There is no gate or code needed.
