Finger Lakes RV Resort Review

If you are planning an RV trip to the Finger Lakes region of New York, Finger Lakes RV Resort is a great campground option—especially if your idea of a good camping trip includes quiet evenings, nearby wineries, spacious RV sites, and a comfortable place to relax after a day of exploring.

Finger Lakes RV Resort describes itself as an adult-focused wine trail escape. After staying there as our home base for a first visit to the Finger Lakes, that feels like the right description. It is not a big family activity resort with splash pads, golf carts, and a packed recreation schedule. Instead, it is a peaceful, well-kept RV resort designed for adults who want a comfortable site, a pretty setting, and easy access to the Seneca Lake Wine Trail.

The resort is located in Hector, New York, on the east side of Seneca Lake. It’s open for an extended summer season. For the 2026 season, that was April 10 through November 1. As always, check the campground website before booking since dates, rates, and amenities can change.

Finger Lakes RV Resort Overview

This was our first visit to the Finger Lakes, and it quickly became one of those places where we kept saying, “We need to come back.” The area has a great mix of waterfalls, state parks, wineries, lake views, small towns, and local food. Finger Lakes RV Resort made a great home base for that kind of trip.

There are 71 large, full hookup campsites. Alternatives like cabins, yurts, or glamping tents are not available. The resort is geared toward adult travelers and doesn’t have the typical pool, playground, or bouncing pillow found at KOA or Jellystone campgrounds. What it did have were amenities that adults might appreciate like a clubhouse, exercise facility, and easy walking distance to two wineries.

Finger Lakes RV Resort Sites

Finger Lakes RV Resort has a smaller, quieter feel than many large destination campgrounds. The sites are full hookup with 50/30 amp electric, water, and sewer. Both back-in and pull-through sites are available, and the sites are designed to be big-rig friendly.

We really liked the amount of space. The sites are large, nicely spread out, and a minimum of about 70 feet long. We found it easy to back in to our site and having large site made a big difference for sitting outside in the evening or gathering with camping friends.

One thing to know is that this is still a newer campground, so there is not a lot of shade yet. Trees have been planted and are growing, but for now you should expect open sites and plan accordingly during warmer summer weather.

Finger Lakes RV Resort Amenities

This is where Finger Lakes RV Resort feels different from a typical family campground. You will not find a pool, playground, jumping pillow, or a long list of kid-focused activities. Instead, the amenities are aimed at adults who want a clean, quiet, comfortable place to spend time.

The clubhouse was one of our favorite spaces. It had comfortable seating arranged for conversation, a pool table, and a cabinet of games including Scrabble, Settlers of Catan, and Ticket to Ride. We were staying with camping friends, so the clubhouse made a great spot for game night.

There is also a small but nicely equipped exercise room. In addition to the expected treadmill and weights, they had TRX straps, which is something we have never seen in a campground or hotel fitness room.

The bathhouse was clean, bright, and nicely finished, with spacious showers and a separate changing area. The buildings throughout the resort had a farmhouse-style look that fit the setting well.

Outside, there is a large pavilion that would work well for a group meal. There is a community fire pit, with a row of Adirondack chairs, was a perfect setting for enjoying a Finger Lakes sunset.

The main office building also includes a laundry room with four washers and four dryers. Payment is made through an app, which made it easy to use without needing quarters.

A dog park is available, just a basic fenced area for dogs to play. We saw several dogs enjoying the space during our visit.

Wineries Near Finger Lakes RV Resort

One of the best parts of staying here is the location on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. There are two wineries within walking distance and many more within a short drive. That makes it easy to enjoy a tasting and then head back to the campground for dinner or a campfire.

Hector Wine Company / Sawmill Creek Estate was an easy stop from Finger Lakes RV Resort. The tasting room sits across the road from the lake, with vineyards between the building and the water. It was a little louder than some of the other stops we made, but our server was knowledgeable and helped make it a good experience.

Red Newt Cellars is tucked behind the campground and set a bit farther back from the main road. While they do not have their own vines, we found several enjoyable reds and bought a Cabernet Franc to share with friends back at the campsite.

Other Fun Stops Nearby

Just across the road from the resort was a farm with something we had never seen before: a meat vending machine. We heard from locals that the burgers and steaks available there are fantastic. Next time, we’ll definitely pick up something for supper.

Finger Lakes RV Resort Staff and Service

The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Check-in was simple, and when we had a minor issue, someone came right away to offer assistance. The resort was clean, well maintained, and clearly cared for.

When we checked in, we got something we’ve never had at a campground – a chocolate chip cookie. It was the perfect greeting after a day of travel.

Directions to Finger Lakes RV Resort

We found Finger Lakes RV Resort easy to reach. The resort is just off Highway 414 on Tichenor Road, near the Dandy Sunoco gas station. We thought it was pretty handy to be able to fuel up here before heading toward our next destination.

As with any RV trip, it is worth reviewing the campground’s recommended directions before arrival rather than relying only on a navigation app. Here are the directions provided from the Finger Lakes RV Resort website.

From the South: From either direction, take I-86 to the Horseheads exit for Route 14 North. Do not take suggested turns until you get into Watkins Glen. From there, turn right on 4th Street and then, as you start up the hill, use the left turn lane onto 414 North. Make a right on Tichenor Road and the resort will be on the left.

From the North: If traveling I-90 West, take exit 41 for 414 South to 20 West to 96 South. If traveling I-90 East, take exit 42 for 14 South to 96 South. Do not take 96A. Route 96 South will become 414 South. Make a left on Tichenor Road and the resort will be on the left.

Finger Lakes RV Resort Final Verdict

We really enjoyed our stay at Finger Lakes RV Resort and would happily return. It was clean, quiet, friendly, and comfortable, with spacious sites and the right amenities for the way we like to camp. The clubhouse gave us a great place to spend time with friends, the fire pit was a nice sunset gathering spot, and the location made it easy to explore waterfalls, wineries, farms, and lake towns throughout the Finger Lakes region.

If you are looking for a family activity campground with a packed recreation schedule, this probably is not the best match. But if you want an adult-focused RV resort with large full-hookup sites, a peaceful setting, and wineries close enough to walk to, Finger Lakes RV Resort is a great choice for a Finger Lakes camping trip.

We heard occasional noises from the nearby gas station – like trucks with their backup alert. While you may encounter some noise from fellow campers, especially on a busy holiday weekend, this seemed like a very quiet campground.

Is The Finger Lakes RV Resort Big Rig Friendly?

Yes. Sites are large and spread out. Most sites were angled to the road for easy access. We saw plenty of larger class A RVs, travel trailers, and fifth wheel campers visiting the campground.
